Even though we’re still four days away from Christmas, maybe you’re already thinking ahead to 2016 and what the year may hold and perhaps your goals to make it the best year yet.
2015 was certainly a pivotal year for me. I left the public relations and marketing field after 17 years to pursue my dream of personal training. I felt really strongly that I didn’t want to be the average trainer who focuses just on building muscles and decreasing waistlines. I wanted my relationships with clients to go deeper than that. See, I’ve always been fascinated by people – what motivates them, inspires them, challenges them and so on. I’m interested in helping people find strength they didn’t know they had; not just physical strength, but emotional and mental strength, too. Overall, I wanted to empower my clients to lead healthier lives.
I’m honored to walk the journey with the clients who’ve entrusted me as their trainer. I have, in fact, found that I connect with each of them on a personal level and I’ve seen all of them grow and change since we first began.
My goal for 2016 is to find ways to connect with and help more people. Next year, I’m rolling out a “personal training starter kit” that will include three video workouts as well as recipes, a meal plan, nutrition information, weekly check-ins and three new video workouts every three months. This option will be less expensive than in-person personal training and is perfect for people with very busy schedules. I also will strive to enrich the relationships with my current clients and continue to help them work toward their health and fitness goals.
What are your plans for 2016? I asked a few friends to share their goals with me and here’s what they said:
Teodora: “My goal for 2015 was to get more ability for motion after health and injury setbacks from the last 2 years. My goal for 2016 is to now shed the weight to continue on my health improvement track, increase mobility and just overall life quality improvement.”
Alice: “I just want to be healthy and feel like it.”
Jodi: “I want to be more active. Eat less meat. Not feel like an old lady! I want to be able to be an awesome grandma one day!”
Erin: “To stay consistent with going to the gym. And to lose weight, but I want to gain muscle.”
Angela: “Definitely lose all the weight I have gained in nursing school and then some. Be more active, drink more water and just make better overall choices. I want to do it because I want to be healthy and I also think if I am a nurse and I am educating others on being healthy, losing weight and all the health problems that go along with not being healthy, then I need to follow the same example that I am teaching!”
Aaron: “I realized if I’m going to be an in shape old man I’ve got to be an in shape middle-age man first. So my goals for this year are losing stomach fat and gaining muscle and who knows maybe my feet have healed enough in four years for me to run another half marathon. I also want to be in good enough shape to windsurf like a bad ass when I finally get time in my schedule to do it again.”
Amanda: “I’m really going to try and make this, my soon to be 40th year, the one where I push my body to limits it’s never seen and see if I can shed this 10-15 pounds that’s hung on for dear life! I’d like to run 1,000 miles this year and run at least 2 half marathons. I’d like to beat my time on the 5k and get to a 2 hour half. I want to continue to show my kids how important it is to have exercise as an outlet for many things!!”
Duyen: “I want to be in the best shape of my life – physically, mentally and spiritually – because I want to live life to its fullest and be a good role model for our children.”
Dana: “I want to be healthy and happy. I want to increase my movement and be more aware of what I eat. I will continue on the path I began in June, lose more weight and move. I want to be able to get around well because there is a whole wide world I want to see!”
Here’s to 2016! I believe you will do great things!
